Superman Returns is super good!

I saw Superman Returns last night and I just have to say that it is amazing. Bryan Singer (X1 and X2) really stays faithful to the whole Superman mythos and tells a great story to boot! I’m glad he didn’t reinvent Superman with new powers, new costume and new attitude. Superman still had the same everything but Singer still found a way to make his Superman unique.

My main worries were of the two main actors. Brandon Routh made a great Superman and an even better Clark Kent. He was able to pull off the two characters to a tee. You can tell that he spent hours studying the early Donner Superman films and especially Christopher Reeve’s performance. He was fantastic. My other worry, Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane, also turned out to be quite enjoyable. She was not quite as hard ass as Margot Kidder but still showed us that she could handle the wide range of emotion that Lois goes through in these movies.

Definately a highlight was Kevin Spacey’s Lex Luthor. By far the best actor in the movie, Spacey kept the same aproach to Luthor as Gene Hackman but added a little more class and a lot more insanity. It was a perfect blend of personality. Sort of like Anthony Hopkins’ Hannibal Lecter.

It’s a thrill ride from the moment you hear the Superman fanfare to the end credits. See this movie and be in for a ride. By far the best movie I’ve seen this year. (But Pirates of the Carribean 2 comes out next week so we’ll see…)
