This Week in Wha?: The New Paris Hilton CD

Just when you thought the world couldn’t get any wackier–BAM!–Paris Hilton releases a CD. That’s right pop culture junkies, the girl famous for being famous has released a CD with her singing on it.

Now I’m sure your first question is, can she sing? The answer: who cares? With the advent of computer technology and pitch correction software any rich and/or famous twit looking to diversify her media portfolio can release an album. Find yourself a hot shot producer with computer skills and a lack of artistic integrity and you’ve got yourself a music career, no matter how bad your moaning. Paris Hilton’s monotone voice will do just fine with right computer algorithm.

The next question is how Paris Hilton stacks up against other efforts to manufacture pop stars out of famous people. Can Paris Hilton compete with the likes of J. Lo (Jennifer Lopez) and J. Love (Jennifer Love Hewitt)? Well I guess that all depends on how good her music is. And by “how good her music is” I mean how good her publicity stunts are. Commence PR blitz.

One thing is for sure, there appears to be a generation of mini-women out there who want to be famous, actors, singers, models, shoppers, cute-dog-owners. Paris Hilton seems to have done a good job to date in marketing herself as the incarnation of their goal in life.

Time will tell how well this new career move will work out for Paris Hilton. Personally, there are few senses with which I may even slightly care to experience Paris Hilton. Sound isn’t one of them.
